Oberlin, OH, United States

Generational Confusion is a two‑hour Friday‑morning show on WOBC 91.5 FM, Oberlin College and community radio, built to bridge the generation gap in music, arts and entertainment. It’s hosted by ATC (Alexander The Comic) alongside DJ X, a rotating young co‑host. It was the first show in The Talent Catalog’s TTC Radio Show series and home of the original “SEE the STARS” interview workshop, where TTC members come on air to share their music and their message. Formerly known as “Jazz, Jokes, and a Lot More,” the show opens every week with The Temptations’ “Ball of Confusion.” From there it’s jazz, soul, funk, old‑school hip‑hop and a well‑timed joke. Tune in live, then step into the WOBC Radio Lobby on The Talent Catalog to talk back.

About

Generational Confusion is designed to bridge the generation gap in music, arts and entertainment. It takes a comedic approach to the distance between what the younger and older generations know and understand about each other. It was the first show in The Talent Catalog’s TTC Radio Show series, which started on Facebook (facebook.com/TTCRadioShow), and it has put TTC members’ music and voices on the air from the beginning.

The format starts with its hosts. ATC (Alexander The Comic) holds down the show as the older‑generation host. Across from him sits DJ X, a “phantom” co‑host seat filled each week by a young adult whose interests match that week’s guest artist. Two generations share one microphone, trading picks, perspectives and questions.

SEE the STARS — the TTC interview workshop. Every Friday at 9 AM, the second hour turns into “SEE the STARS,” an interview segment presented by The Talent Catalog. It spotlights TTC members, helping them deliver their inspirational messages and show the stars they are. Featured artists’ music is played on the show and is often added to WOBC’s on‑air rotation.

The segment is also a hands‑on radio trade program. The young co‑host seat teaches the skills of the medium: hosting interviews, building radio programs and operating the board. It also gives each co‑host a mentor‑to‑mentee session with an artist who shares their interests, digging into the advice and real‑world lessons that artist has to offer.

The music follows the same idea. In one two‑hour set, a smooth‑jazz standard sits next to a TV theme song. A 1979 funk record hands off to a new TTC artist. A novelty song lands right when you need a laugh. The Temptations’ “Ball of Confusion (That’s What The World Is Today)” opens nearly every episode, and Cannonball Adderley’s “Stars Fell on Alabama” is a weekly anchor. ATC builds sets around themes and word games: a run of songs that all start with “Just…”, a rainy‑day hour, a birthday tribute to Sting or John Lennon, a deep dive into Rod Temperton’s songbook. The comic side shows up in the picks too, with Ray Stevens’ “The Streak,” “Mah Nà Mah Nà” and Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana” turning up between jazz and funk.

ATC also co‑hosts the flagship The Talent Catalog Radio Show on WOBC (Wednesdays, 6–8 PM) with TTC founder Michael “Ommy” Caraballo Rivera.

WOBC has broadcast since 1950. It airs 150+ weekly programs created by student and community volunteers, serving Lorain County and western Greater Cleveland on FM and listeners worldwide online.
