About

Julian “JuJu Royal” Marley is a British‑Jamaican reggae artist whose career reflects both a deep connection to reggae's roots and an ongoing commitment to musical evolution. Born in London in 1975 to Bob Marley and Lucy Pounder, Julian grew up between England and Jamaica and developed his musical abilities from an early age. Primarily self‑taught, he became proficient on guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards and began recording at the Marley family's Tuff Gong Studios as a child.

Julian emerged professionally through the Ghetto Youths movement alongside his brothers and launched his solo recording career with Lion in the Morning in 1996. His subsequent work—including A Time and Place, the Grammy‑nominated Awake, and As I Am—established him as a respected voice in contemporary reggae. His career has also included extensive international touring, collaborations with fellow Marley family members, and performances on major global stages, including the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

In 2023, Julian entered a new creative chapter with Colors of Royal, his collaboration with producer Antaeus. The project expanded beyond traditional roots reggae, incorporating electronic, Latin, African, and other global influences while maintaining Julian's reggae foundation. The album earned Julian his first GRAMMY Award when Colors of Royal won Best Reggae Album at the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards in 2024.

Julian's artistry is grounded in themes of love, spirituality, resilience, positivity, social consciousness, and connection. His music demonstrates a willingness to explore new sounds without losing the cultural and spiritual foundation that defines reggae. That balance—honoring where the music comes from while helping move it forward—has become central to his identity as an artist.

His creative journey continues in 2026 with new music and collaborations, including Give to Life with Crawba Genius and Easy Now with Exco Levi and King Cruff. Julian is also continuing to bring his music to audiences internationally through live performances and touring.

As an artist, performer, and humanitarian, Julian Marley represents a living connection between reggae's enduring roots and its evolving global future—carrying forward a powerful musical legacy while creating a path that is unmistakably his own.
