Keba Williams, known professionally as Keba, is a Trinidadian‑born singer‑songwriter whose music blends R&B, Soul and Funk with the rhythms and cultural influences of her Caribbean upbringing. A classically trained vocalist and multi‑instrumentalist, she grew up playing piano, clarinet and steel‑pan and singing in choir before carrying that musical foundation with her to the United States.
Keba's path to music was anything but conventional. After moving from Trinidad and Tobago to the United States at 16, she pursued her original goal of medicine and earned a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, cum laude, from Florida International University. She went on to earn a second bachelor's degree in Music with a focus on Vocal Performance, also graduating cum laude. Ultimately, music proved to be the calling she could not ignore.
In 2013, Keba released her debut studio album, Wildfire, a fusion of R&B, Soul and Funk created in collaboration with producer Erik Nuñez. Her original songwriting has received recognition in both the USA Songwriting Competition and International Songwriting Competition, while her live career has taken her to stages across the United States, the Caribbean and Europe. She has headlined South Florida venues with Keba & The Usual Suspects, opened for Jill Scott and Kool & the Gang at the 2015 Tobago Jazz Experience, and toured Portugal, France, England and Spain in support of her Filmstrip EP.
Keba's artistry has increasingly become a vehicle for conversations around identity, femininity, self‑worth and the experiences of women. Her 2020 single “Loco for the Coco,” for example, draws from her own experiences as a performer and uses Trinidad and Tobago's La Diablesse folklore to frame a message about consent, empowerment and women being able to move through the world with confidence and pride.
Beyond her own music, Keba has long embraced the power of creative community. She is a founding member of The Talent Catalog, supporting its early development and the launch of its social‑impact arm, Talent4Change. She hosted inaugural Talent4Change gatherings at Chef Alan Hughes' restaurant in Miami's Design District and later participated in Talent4Change's “For the Love of Poetry” event at Bardot, hosted by Adrian “Lovebook” Carter and featuring artists including Erik Nuñez, keyboardist Jerald Dorsett, Khalilah Camacho‑Ali and others. Her continued connection to The Talent Catalog includes being interviewed by ATC and DJ X for Generational Confusion, while her music continues to receive regular airplay on the TTC Radio Show hosted by Michael Ommy on WOBC 91.5 FM, Oberlin College and community radio.
For Keba, music is more than performance—it is a way to tell stories, celebrate culture, empower others and create spaces where people can connect. Whether commanding a stage with her powerful vocals or using her songwriting to address issues that matter, she continues to bring authenticity, soul and purpose to everything she creates.
