About
Born in St. Thomas, Jamaica, raised in New York City, and now based in Toronto, Melodic Yoza has spent his life absorbing different musical cultures and turning those influences into a sound uniquely his own. Raised on reggae and dancehall in Jamaica, he developed an appreciation for hip‑hop after moving to New York in the 1990s, drawing inspiration from artists ranging from Tupac Shakur and Mos Def to Buju Banton and other reggae innovators.
Rather than limiting himself to traditional reggae, Yoza developed what he calls “Reggae Soul Hop”—a genre‑blending approach that brings reggae, dancehall, hip‑hop, soul, jazz and pop together while preserving the organic feel and lyrical consciousness at the heart of his music. His catalog reflects that philosophy, moving comfortably between socially aware material, celebratory anthems, personal storytelling and rhythm‑driven performances.
Yoza's career includes the album Jam Ya Jazzy, the Countri Boi Kingston project and a growing catalog of singles spanning more than two decades. His breakthrough “Countri Boi Kingston” reached #1 on ReverbNation's reggae charts, while songs including “Celebrate” and “Where The Love Go” further established his feel‑good yet conscious musical identity.
His collaborative résumé includes “Ting Tun Up!” with Jahdan Blakkamoore and Lady Leshurr on the internationally released Order of Distinction, alongside additional work with artists such as Frankie Payne and other reggae, hip‑hop and soul collaborators.
