Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Hollywood, FL, United States

Tanto Irie is the voice of reggae in South Florida. For 25 years he has hosted Reggae Runnins on HOT 105 FM, every Saturday night from 10pm to 1am, and turned it into a trusted voice for reggae culture across the region. He’s a Jamaican‑born broadcaster, emcee and producer who has interviewed legends from Beres Hammond and Buju Banton to the Marley brothers and Shaggy. Book him to emcee festivals and heritage celebrations, host live broadcasts and benefit concerts, or give independent artists the real industry guidance he has offered for four decades.

About

Tanto Irie was born L. Anthony Garrick in Kingston, Jamaica, and raised in rural Trelawny. His friends gave him the name “Tanto.” He started in music in 1983 when he opened Tanto Productions Ltd., a record and video store in Kingston. He credits it with helping launch artists including Major Mackerel, Lt. Stitchie, Pinchers, Sanchez, Eddie Fitzroy and Sugar Minott.

After moving to the U.S. in the mid‑1980s, he hosted a weekly jazz program on KXCR in El Paso, Texas. That’s where Reggae Runnins was born, as a Saturday‑night reggae hour. The show then aired across the Four Corners region on Santa Fe’s Coyote Radio 102.5 FM and later on WNWK in New York. Over 17 years he hosted and produced concerts across Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado, bringing major reggae artists to audiences who were hearing many of them for the first time.

He came to South Florida in 1997 and began by producing and hosting monthly beach concerts. In 2001 he brought Reggae Runnins to HOT 105 FM (WHQT, Cox Media Group). HOT 105 calls it the #1 reggae show on the #1 urban station in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market. Today he is founder, president and CEO of Reggae Runnins. The company offers:

  • entertainment booking
  • producing and promoting reggae artists
  • live radio broadcasts from concerts, festivals and special events

He also produced and hosted the TV show Island Vibes, a series of travel documentaries filmed in Jamaica that aired on UPN (now My 33).

He also works with up‑and‑coming artists. As an Intercept Music Ambassador, he consulted for and mentored independent artists. Through Reggae Runnins he continues to guide indie artists building their careers. His advice to newcomers: be humble, be patient, be willing to learn, and never give up. In his words: “I want to see people come together through the music.”
